The course will introduce participants to the basics of documentary cinematography. You will explore the stages of documentary film preparation and production, different camera approaches and techniques, and the visual language characteristic of documentary filmmaking. The focus will be on capturing a documentary portrait and documenting authentic stories that capture real life and human emotions. The goal is to develop skills in creating professional shots, working with light and composition, and telling impactful stories through images. In the course, we will also work with artificial lighting to capture specific tasks and exercises more effectively and impactfully.


Kiril Prodanov stands out with his ability to discover the poetic even in the simplest everyday situations, capturing moments of profound emotion in his characters. He is a cinematographer for short and feature-length, fiction, and documentary films. Among them are “Three Days in Sarajevo,” “Radiogram,” “Irina,” “The Trap,” “The Blessed,” “Marriage,” and “The Investigation of Rumen Leonidov.” He collaborates with directors such as Nikolay Todorov, Petar Valchanov, Rouzie Hassanova, Nadejda Koseva, Dušan Milić, Slava Doycheva, Andrey Volkashin, Mario Krastev, and Stanimir Trifonov.
